Day 11: iPad Must-Have Accessory for Travel

I recently saw there is a docking module for iPads/iPhones that allows an HDMI cable to be attached to your iProduct. I used to travel with a mini pc or a MacBook. When I wanted to watch a movie I could plug either one into the hotel TV.

The product is about $50 for the Apple version. I don’t know how many others work or branded. You can stream many apps to the TV. So far my experiences with what works are:

  • Amazon
  • Youtube
  • Netflix
  • HBOmax
  • Discovery+

One thing I like over the mini-PC over this dongle is, The mini PC has a mini keyboard that looks like a wireless game controller. You can move through videos and the screen from the couch. With the dongle however, it isn’t great for watching short YouTube videos, there is no remote control to move around unless you have the iProduct in hand. Yes, I know, in a hotel how far away from the tv can you really be? Just bring a longer cord… One other downside is that you are limited to 1080 resolution. For most things that will be fine. The TVs in hotels aren’t up to 4K or 5K yet.

In a brief, that is my review of this small but handy accessory. In my travel toolbox, this thing Packs Small and Plays Big.
