Day 24: My Favorite GoPro Accessories.

Having traveled with a GoPro on TDY, I have to try and decide what I want to take and what I can leave behind. With time I have found what I take and use, and what I have taken and not used. Things may be different for me than you. Below is a list of what I have found works for me.

First off, the most important thing to have besides the camera and the memory card is power. Without extra power, the camera has a real short usability time. So the charger I use is also a case.

Telesin Charger

I have a new one on the way that is the same Telesin brand. The newer one has a built in micro SD-card reader. You can find it on Amazon. It is nice to put three batteries in and let them charge overnight. You will be ready for a full day of action with the case full of batteries. The other benefit is that the lid stores extra SD-Cards. I would say this, use batteries from GoPro. I have not had it happen with generic GoPro batteries, but other off-brand camera batteries I have had, swelled in the battery compartment of a expensive mirrorless I had. Getting the batteries out was extremely difficult. Always look at batteries for puffiness.

My next go everywhere tool is the 3-Way 2.0 Selfie Stick. This is the best iteration of this GoPro has made. The first version I had, the place where the camera mount was, broke easily. I had to keep an accessory mounted between the fins where the camera would mount to protect it when not in use. The new on remedies this by using the standard GoPro mount to slide in. The camera can be utilized in portrait of landscape mode. The handle opens up so that it can be used as a tripod. The amount of adjustability is great. This is a favorite accessory of mine.

The next item is the Light Mod. GoPro cameras do not have great abilities in low-light. This is a good way to add a little light to the situation. Pushing the button will move through a variety of light intensities. There is even a strobe setting. There is even a little diffuser included to soften the light. Rechargeable by USB cable this is a great, compact little light.

Light Mod

The next item is the GoPro Media Mod. This is an external microphone cage for the GoPro. You can add other microphones, recharge the GoPro’s battery, and have a place to add shoe mount accessories. I find it does improve the audio quality alone, and if you add a quality microphone, the audio is even more improved. (Side note, Did you know you can record audio on a different track on the GoPro and add it later?) This may make the GoPro body slightly bigger, but I think it is worth it.

Camera Media Mod

Sometimes you want a faster way to get media off the GoPro. The next accessory is from Apple. It is the SD-Card reader and a micro SD-Card adapter. While downloading to the phone with the Quik app is a good method, sometimes a lot of files will take a lot of time and a lot of battery power from the phone and camera. This is a great little dongle to take along. Plug it into your phone and download away.

Apple SD Card Reader

The last accessory I will include is the one that came with the Hero 9 and 10. GoPro now includes a case when you buy a camera. That case will fit everything mentioned in this list. That is why this is my “Travel” kit. It all fits compact and ready to go. Pack it all up and we are set to go capture the action.

What accessories do you like to travel with? What is your favorite accessory? I hope you have enjoyed this post and it inspires you to travel with a GoPro more.
